A New Cultural Beacon in Stuttgart-West

In the heart of Stuttgart, amidst the cultural vibrancy of Stuttgart-West, Galerie Sammlung Amann opened its doors in June 2023. Spearheaded by the architect and art collector Karl Amann, the gallery extends his significant collection into a permanent exhibition space.

A Unique Exhibition Space

Galerie Sammlung Amann distinguishes itself by its unique use of space. Part of the gallery is ingeniously situated within the architectural office of no w here / architekten designer, co-founded by Karl Amann and Henning Volpp. This innovative integration allows the gallery to utilize the architectural office’s space, located in the basement of Schwabstraße 69/1, for its exhibitions. The space is equipped with a sophisticated system of tubes on the ceiling, enabling the flexible arrangement of display panels made from recycled PET material. This system offers endless possibilities for artists to create diverse spatial situations and color combinations, making each exhibition a unique experience.

Innovations in Lighting and Material

The gallery’s commitment to innovation extends to its lighting system, this delicate and responsive lighting setup can adapt to different spatial situations. Ensuring the natural colors of the exhibits are beautifully enhanced. Highlighting the gallery’s sustainable approach, the display panels are crafted from recycled PET materials, emphasizing environmental consciousness without compromising aesthetic appeal. These Acoustic PET Felt Panels and Melange 12 mm PET Felt Panels also contribute to the acoustic quality of the space, ensuring a serene atmosphere for the appreciation of art.

Focus of the Collection

Karl Amann’s collection, which has been meticulously curated since 1997, is a testament to his passion for post-war art and contemporary expressions. The collection features a significant array of artists associated with the Academy of Arts in Stuttgart, such as Walter Gutbrod, Ben Willikens, and many others from the same academy. It also includes works by Mathias Perlet from Leipzig and LGBTTIQ+ related graphics, showcasing a diverse range of artistic voices and perspectives.
