Open Design and Natural Light

Bas Vogelpoel Architecten transformed a three-storey house on Amsterdam’s Oude Looiersstraat into a more open and efficient space. The staircase is a key feature of their design, which acts as a central element connecting all floors. Incorporating a glass floor at the attic level allowed natural light to flow through the home, enhancing the sense of space and light. The minimalist design of the staircase, combined with a glass ceiling in the entrance hall, creates a seamless connection between levels, bringing calm and structure to the home.

Sustainable Acoustic Solution

The walls of the entrance hall are lined with acoustic PET felt panels, providing additional acoustic comfort as soon as you enter from the busy city centre. These panels, made from recycled PET bottles, help to create a quieter, more peaceful atmosphere inside the home. Their soft texture and light grey colour blend seamlessly into the minimalist design, adding both acoustic comfort and a subtle visual touch to the space.
